The 2012-2013 AMSOIL Championship Snocross (ACS) season opens in Duluth

RACE PREP: AMSOIL DOMINATOR® - Duluth, Minn.

The 2012-2013 AMSOIL Championship Snocross (ACS) season opens with the AMSOIL Duluth National November 23-25 in Duluth, Minn. Kicking off the weekend will be the second annual AMSOIL DOMINATOR race. Sixteen of the sport’s top riders will compete for the $10,000 prize in head-to-head, bracket-style elimination races, with the winner of each one-on-one race advancing to the next round. After four rounds of racing, one rider will stand alone at the top of Spirit Mountain as the newly crowned AMSOIL DOMINATOR.

“The AMSOIL DOMINATOR race was one of the most intense races for me last year,” said Team AMSOIL/Judnick Motorsports racer and defending DOMINATOR champion Ross Martin. “It is the first race of the year and everyone is still working through sled setups and tunings, not to mention the nerves that come along with the first race of the year. It makes it even more challenging because the race is so short – you have to give it your all for a couple of laps, so there is no room for mistakes or you will be eliminated. I won the DOMINATOR race last year, and I plan on winning it again this year!"

AMSOIL is the title sponsor and Exclusive Official Oil of AMSOIL Championship Snocross and the AMSOIL DOMINATOR.

Maximizes Power and Efficiency

AMSOIL Motorcycle Octane Boost (MOB) increases octane for power and efficiency. It is designed to improve startup performance and eliminate engine ping and knock for increased power at low-rpm operation. Motorcycle Octane Boost contains detergents that help combustion chambers and fuel delivery systems maintain cleanliness for optimum performance. At the recommended treat rate, it does not harm catalytic converters or oxygen sensors and is compatible with all other AMSOIL fuel additives.

See Pricing Information or Place an Order

Maximizes Power & Performance

When treated at 1.3 oz. per gallon of fuel, Motorcycle Octane Boost increases the octane of gasoline up to three numbers. Increased octane improves power and can eliminate performance-robbing and potentially damaging engine knock or ping (see below).

Improves Low-rpm Performance

Engine knock is especially noticeable in some motorcycles during idle or low-rpm operation and high-temperature driving. Most modern bikes are equipped with sophisticated knock-detection systems that can alter spark timing and the air-to-fuel mixture until knock ceases. Although these systems protect the engine from damage, they can also cause reduced horsepower and poor low-rpm operability. AMSOIL Motorcycle Octane Boost helps reduce the need for knock-detection systems to compensate, ensuring maximum low-rpm power and performance in modern bikes.

Cleans Harmful Deposits

Because Motorcycle Octane Boost contains active detergents, it can help maintain efficiency. For clean up, however, AMSOIL recommends treating gasoline with AMSOIL Quickshot®, which contains a greater concentration of cleaning agents.

What is engine knock and why does it matter?

The tendency of a hydrocarbon fuel, such as gasoline, to knock is measured by its octane number. Lower numbers denote a greater knock tendency; higher numbers denote greater knock control. "Engine knock" is a reference to the sound made from an uncontrolled and early ignition of fuel in the combustion chamber. It causes a knocking or pinging sound, robs the engine of power and can cause catastrophic engine damage. Knock may be eliminated by increasing the fuel's octane.

What is Research Octane Number?

Research Octane Number (RON), Motor Octane Number (MON) and Anti-Knock Index (AKI) are the three most common octane ratings. AKI, the rating with which most North American motorists are familiar, is typically displayed on gas pumps as the average of the fuel's RON and MON [(R+M)/2]. RON, however, is the most common industry rating. Therefore, AMSOIL uses the RON rating when conducting performance tests and product validation. Gasoline's RON generally is a few numbers higher than the AKI posted on the gas pump (e.g. 87 octane fuel, or regular pump gas, has a RON of about 91-92).

When marketing their products, some additive manufacturers have adopted a points system where 10 points equals one octane number. A claim that an additive increases octane 30 points translates into an increase of three octane numbers. This approach is often used only to artificially strengthen marketing claims and is not endorsed by AMSOIL.

Treat Rate

One 4-oz. bottle of AMSOIL Motorcycle Octane Boost treats four to six gallons of gasoline. Slight overtreatment causes no issues,

APPLICATIONS

Motorcycle Octane Boost is primarily recommended for use in four-stroke air- or liquid-cooled motorcycles manufactured by Harley-Davidson®, Yamaha®, Honda®, Ducati®, BMW®, Triumph® and all other four-stroke motorcycles. It may be used in off-road applications, including ATVs, UTVs and snowmobiles, as an alternative to AMSOIL DOMINATOR® Octane Boost. Note: Clean spills immediately using a clean towel. If left standing, Motorcycle Octane Boost can stain painted or metal surfaces. If cleaned immediately, there is no need for concern.

HP Marine Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil

  • Excellent for Evinrude® E-TEC™ factory-lean setting (replaces Evinrude XD100™ 2-Cycle Oil)
  • Helps prevent deposits
  • Protects against wear
  • Low smoke
  • Protects against rust
  • Low aquatic toxicity
  • Superior performance as an injection oil or at 50:1 pre-mix
High-quality motor oil is critical for maximum performance in modern two-cycle marine motors. Direct fuel injection (DFI) improves combustion efficiency, delivering the extra power enthusiasts want, while leaner gas-to-oil ratios provide the reduced exhaust emissions the government mandates. The leaner ratio leaves less oil to lubricate and protect these hotter, more powerful motors, which invites deposits and wear that threaten engine performance and life. HP Marine is proven to excel in these harsh challenges. It controls performance-robbing friction, heat and wear, yet produces low smoke and has low aquatic toxicity properties. It's an oil as advanced as the engines it protects.

Outstanding Wear Protection
The elevated heat and friction of modern two-cycle marine motors can exceed the film strength of inferior oils, increasing the likelihood of scuffing and wear. HP Marine's exclusive synthetic formulation provides increased lubricity for reduced wear during normal and lean-mix operation (see field study results). In 534 hours of field testing, HP Marine completely prevented piston skirt and cylinder bore scuffing, demonstrating its superior lubricity and ability to reduce friction between moving parts. It maintains a strong lubricating film even in lean-mix, severe-service conditions, helping marine engines achieve maximum life.

Excellent Deposit Control
HP Marine is formulated with MAXDOSE™, a system of advanced additives for "super-clean" operation. It helps prevent deposits that lead to poor performance. In field testing, HP Marine inhibited ring deposits that can cause ring sticking and ring jacking (carbon build-up behind the ring, forcing it outward), a phenomenon that occurs in modern DFI outboard motors. It also virtually eliminated exhaust port deposits for reliable, efficient operation.

Proven in Marine E-TEC Field Study
HP Marine was installed in a 250-hp Evinrude E-TEC engine powering a heavy-duty marine rescue vessel. Following a 28-hour break-in period at the normal oil setting, the engine was programmed to its factory-lean setting and operated for 506 hours prior to disassembly. An ASTM calibrated rater examined and awarded each component either a merit rating on a scale of 0 to 10 (with 10 representing no distress) or a percentage rating (with 0 percent representing no distress). Results prove HP Marine provided exceptional wear protection and deposit control. For complete study results, visit amsoil.com/proof

PRODUCTS THE PROS USE: My AMSOIL Garage

AMSOIL-sponsored race teams rely on AMSOIL products to get them to the finish line, whether that be on the track or simply getting to the race. Teams are made up of more than just the rider and the race vehicle; additional support is needed from the crew, haulers and pit vehicles. AMSOIL has an online tool that stores vehicle information and facilitates easy product recommendation and ordering. AMSOIL Racing sat down with Internet Services Manager Dewey Asbach to discuss the MyAMSOILGarage™ feature on www.amsoil.com and see how it benefits racers.

AMSOIL Racing: What is MyAMSOILGarage?

Dewey Asbach: MyAMSOILGarage originally launched as a supplement to the AMSOIL Auto & Light-Truck Application Guide. It provides a virtual “garage” in which users store all their vehicle's information so they don't have to re-enter it each time they want to determine which AMSOIL products they need. Users can also track oil and filter changes and establish email oil change reminders. Since it was launched, MyAMSOILGarage has been expanded to allow users to store information for virtually any vehicle, including motorcycles, heavy-duty trucks, lawn equipment and more. You can also set it up to track additional maintenance services such as belt changes, brake work or tires. It has really become a complete vehicle and equipment maintenance software program.
AR: Sounds like you've thought of everything.
DA: The system works well, but we are always working on improvements. We are currently streamlining the account-creation process for new users and making some changes that should make the service even better for our existing users. We are targeting early 2012 for the release of the first series of small upgrades.

AR: How can this tool benefit racers?

DA: Occasionally our Race Program Manager, Jeremy Meyer, manages to convince me to get away from my computer for a while and take in some of our sponsored racing events. The shows are always exciting, but what amazes me most is how much activity is centered around the equipment we fans never even get to see out on the track. These teams are in charge of maintenance for a multitude of equipment behind the scenes. Large teams have everything from massive hauler rigs and motor homes to smaller pit vehicles like ATVs and motorcycles – not to mention all of those smaller motors in things like compressors and generators. Even the smallest racing operation will often have a tow vehicle and trailer to maintain. If your passion is racing, the last thing you want keeping you out of the action is a breakdown of your support equipment, so keeping everything maintained is critical. MyAMSOILGarage can email you reminders when it is time for maintenance on anything you want to track and will have the products you used last time right at your fingertips. It’s a great way to keep maintenance under control so you won’t miss a race and your equipment gets the protection it needs.
