How to Be an Environmentally Conscious Motorist

How to Be an Environmentally Conscious Motorist (5 Tips)

1. Practice safe extended drain intervals. 3,000 mile oil changes are a thing of the past, and using

AMSOIL synthetic oils will protect your engine, increase performance and reduce the amount of

waste oil produced. Be sure, also, that the oil change facility you use recycles used oil regularly and legally.

2. Keep your tires properly inflated. Tires should be inflated to the pressure recommended for your vehicle (this information can either be found inside the door frame or in the owner’s manual).

For every 3 pounds tires are below recommended pressure, fuel economy goes down by about 1

percent. Tires can lose about 1 pound of pressure in a month, so be sure to check the air

pressure regularly, especially before carrying heavy loads or taking long trips. Underinflated tires

can also detract from handling and safety, and can shorten the life of the tires.

3. Don’t forget about your engine’s air filter. A high‐quality air filter, like AMSOIL Ea Air Filters,

can, if properly maintained, increase power, prolong engine life and improve fuel economy.

Also, air filters with a longer life help the environment by reducing the volume of filters that end

up in landfills.

4. Optimize your route. By planning the route in advance, you can save time and gas and reduce the total cost of travel. In addition, route optimization reduces overall CO2 and other emissions your vehicle emits.

5. Use a fuel additive that is good for you, and for Mother Nature. AMSOIL Performance Improver

(P.i.) improves fuel mileage an average of 2.3% and up to 5.7% while reducing emissions such as

hydrocarbons (HC) up to 15%, carbon monoxide (CO) up to 26% and nitrous oxides (NOx) up to 17%.

10,000 Mile Oil Change

AMSOIL XL Extended Life Synthetic Motor Oils provide better wear control, high- and low-temperature protection and increased fuel economy compared to conventional oils. Formulated with extended-drain boost technology, AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oils provide superior performance for up to 10,000-miles/six months, or longer when recommended in owner’s manuals or indicated by electronic oil life monitoring systems.

AMSOIL, the leader in automotive synthetic lubrication, produced the world’s first API-qualified synthetic motor oil in 1972. Trust the extensive experience of AMSOIL, the First in Synthetics®, to do the best job protecting your engine.

Extended-Drain Boost Technology

During normal engine operation, the combustion process creates acidic by-products that can lead to internal component corrosion and a reduction in the life expectancy of the engine oil and engine itself. Formulated with extended-drain boost technology, AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oils employ high-quality synthetic base stocks and a unique additive chemistry to neutralize acids longer than conventional oils. The extra additive package effectively raises the Total Base Number (TBN), a measure of an oil’s useful service life, and provides superior protection and performance throughout the entire drain interval.

Lower Maintenance Costs

Cost-conscious motorists, business owners and fleet managers benefit from the extended drain intervals and wear protection of AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oils. While frequent oil changes are expensive, time consuming and inconvenient, longer drain intervals reduce costs and environmental impact, while increased wear control can reduce maintenance costs. With AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oils, motorists realize the convenience and cost savings of extended drain intervals while also providing vehicles with maximum protection.

Improve Fuel Economy

Formulated with friction modifiers, AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oils are fuel-efficient oils that reduce friction-related energy loss. They provide better fuel economy compared to conventional, non-fuel-efficient motor oils.

Maintain Low Emissions

AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oils are friendly toward modern emissions control systems, promoting proper operation of catalytic converters for optimum service life and low exhaust emissions.

Hot- and Cold-Engine Protection

AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oils are multi-viscosity formulations. Compared to conventional oils, they better resist the effects of thermal breakdown, including evaporation and viscosity loss, while remaining fluid in cold temperatures for easier cold starts and fast start-up circulation.

Keep Engines Clean

Fortified with detergent and dispersant additives, AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oils are engineered to resist sludge and carbon deposits better than conventional oils. They promote clean operation for longer-lasting, better-running engines.

Bid Appropriate

AMSOIL XL Synthetic Motor Oils fulfill the requirements of most public and private purchasing bids. They are cost effective, making them ideal where synthetic motor oil is specified.

Is your engine running hot?

AMSOIL Dominator® Coolant Boost

Provides Effective Heat Transfer and Enhanced Corrosion Protection!

Racers demand lower engine operating temperatures in order to achieve maximum efficiency and horsepower on the track, while the straight water coolant used by many racers opens engines up to damaging radiator and water pump corrosion. AMSOIL Dominator® Coolant Boost (RDCB) provides racers and motorists with significantly lower engine operating temperatures, quicker engine warm-up times and advanced corrosion protection.

Dominator Coolant Boost is formulated with proprietary tiered surfactant technology, providing quick and effective heat transfer inside radiators and cylinder heads, which results in reduced operating temperatures, more efficient operation, increased horsepower and significantly reduced engine warm-up times in cold weather. Coolant Boost also contains a robust mixture of corrosion inhibitors that protect the radiator, heater core, water pump, cylinder heads, engine block and intake manifold from the damaging effects of corrosion.

Temperature Reduction Dynamometer Test

To test the temperature reduction capabilities of Dominator Coolant Boost, dyno tests were performed on a Chevy 350 cubic inch engine with an aluminum block and cylinder heads. Running the test with both straight water and water treated with Coolant Boost, the engine was operated at 4,500 rpm until coolant temperature stabilized.

COOLANT MIXTURE STABILIZED COOLANT TEMPERATURE

Straight Water 221°F

Water with Coolant Boost 202°F

Test results show water treated with Coolant Boost provided a 19°F temperature reduction.

Aluminum Corrosion Test

The Aluminum Corrosion Test (ASTM D-4340) measures the corrosion protection properties of Dominator Coolant Boost in modern automobile and high-performance race engines with aluminum cylinder heads. A cast aluminum puck was heated to 275°F at 28 PSI and exposed to the test coolant mixture for one week. Weight loss of less than 1.0 mg is required to pass the test.

COOLANT MIXTURE WEIGHT LOSS

Straight Water 3.97 mg/cm2/wk

Water with Coolant Boost 0.14 mg/cm2/wk

Test results show water treated with Coolant Boost easily passed the Aluminum Corrosion Test.

Metal Corrosion Test

The Metal Corrosion Test (ASTM D-2570) measures corrosion protection properties in automotive cooling systems. Using ASTM corrosive water designed to simulate hard and corrosive water in degraded coolant, six metal coupons constructed of the most common metals in automotive cooling systems were exposed to the test coolant mixture at 190°F. The coolant was maintained at a temperature and flow rate equivalent to the operating conditions seen in most passenger vehicles. Corrosive weight loss suffered during the test determines the additive’s corrosion protection properties.

Recommendations

Dominator Coolant Boost is recommended with both racing applications using straight water coolant and automotive applications using 50/50 coolant/water mixtures.

Directions: With engine off and cool, make sure cooling system is filled with selected coolant. Shake bottle and pour calculated amount of Coolant Boost into radiator. Start engine, turn heat on high and run for 15 minutes. Do NOT use distilled water unless mixed with 50% antifreeze.

Dosage: For straight water applications, add 2 fl. oz. of Coolant Boost per quart of tap or softened water. For 50/50 coolant/water applications, add 1 fl . oz. of Coolant Boost per quart of 50/50 mix.

Frequency: In applications using Coolant Boost with straight water, drain and re-fill the coolant system and add Coolant Boost once per year or when indicated by color change. A distinctive pH color change indicates when the pH has fallen to a point where corrosion can set in. When the Coolant Boost/water mixture changes from pink to clear, another dosage of Coolant Boost should be added. Monitoring the pH level will ensure all vital areas of the cooling system are protected against corrosion.

In applications using Coolant Boost with 50/50 coolant/water mixtures, add Coolant Boost once per year or every 30,000 miles, whichever comes first. Follow coolant manufacturer recommendations for coolant change intervals

INJEN/AMSOIL Air Intake Systems

INJEN/AMSOIL Diesel Air Intake Systems
AMSOIL now offers the Injen/AMSOIL Power-Flow Diesel Air Intake systems and 150 new Injen/AMSOIL Gasoline Air Intake systems, both featuring the revolutionary Variable Induction Technology. The new VI Technology process is a multipower air induction system that fills the plenum with air, giving added power on demand. The Power Box on the Diesel series is manufactured using a composite mix of glass-filled nylon and polypropylene designed for noticeably quiet operation. The Power Box was designed for advanced cooling efficiency and the ability to resist high temperatures. It will not distort, unlike other plastic components that lose their structural integrity over time. This ground-breaking material makes it possible for the integration of a built-in velocity stack that streamlines the air turbulence into the plenum air chamber by way of the multi-power induction system. Injen/AMSOIL Diesel Air Intake Systems are manufactured with aerospace alloy T6 aluminum, stainless steel clamps and tig-welded ports and brackets. They are dyno-tuned for peak performance and have a direct bolt in application, making installation quick and easy. INJEN/AMSOIL Air Intake Systems

Intake System Design
Air intake systems serve several important functions. Primarily, they are used to increase the amount of oxygen available to the engine and reduce air turbulence increasing power. Because cool air has greater density than hot air, aftermarket intakes improve combustion of fuel by capturing cooler air from outside the engine compartment. In addition, an aftermarket air intake system increases the diameter of the intake as compared to the original equipment, increasing air flow into the engine and making more oxygen available during the combustion process.
By designing a more direct route for the air entering the engine, as well as a smoother interior surface for the intake, air resistance is reduced and air flow is increased. To protect the engine from damaging dirt, cold air intakes are also equipped with filters. Air intake systems can improve gas mileage and increase performance, and they also add a sleek, custom look to a vehicle.

Injen/AMSOIL Diesel Air Intake Systems

AMSOIL offers the Injen/AMSOIL Power-Flow Diesel Air Intake series with revolutionary Variable Induction Technology. The new VI Technology process is a multipower air induction system that fills the plenum with cool air from factory wheel well opening, giving added power on demand. Injen/AMSOIL Diesel Air Intake Systems are manufactured with aerospace alloy T6 aluminum, stainless steel clamps and tig-welded ports and brackets. They are dyno-tuned for peak performance and have a direct bolt in application, making installation quick and easy.
AMSOIL Ea Air Filters and Injen
The addition of AMSOIL Ea Air Filters to these high-quality intake systems ensures the ultimate in protection and performance. AMSOIL Ea Diesel Intake Filters provide increased horsepower and torque, improved acceleration and fuel economy and maximum air flow. The high quality of the AMSOIL Ea Filter media offers long filter life because the filters can be cleaned and reused. Above all, Injen/AMSOIL Filters provide superior protection and maximum efficiency for engines.

Injen/AMSOIL Power-Flow Gasoline Intake Systems

Improved Air Flow Equals Increased Power
Injen/AMSOIL Power-Flow Gasoline Intake Systems feature AMSOIL Ea Air Filters with Nanofiber Technology. This offers state-of-the-art filter efficiency while providing excellent protection and air flow. The cleanable and reusable Ea filter element provides a longer filter life with proper maintenance. The systems also feature removable prefilters, which remove larger dirt particles to extend the life of the EaA filter.
The increased inlet size of the air intake systems increases horsepower and torque while providing more passing power for changing lanes, especially while towing. The 360° accordion style filter elements provide 500% more surface area, maximizing air flow into the engine. Finally, the improved air flow can help improve fuel economy (depending on driving habits, conditions and vehicle upkeep) and help the engine run cooler and more efficiently.
Quality Construction
Injen/AMSOIL Gasoline Air Intake Systems are manufactured with aerospace alloy T6 aluminum, stainless steel clamps and tig-welded ports and brackets. They are dyno-tuned for peak performance and have a direct bolt-in application, making installation quick and easy.

Additional Information

When using a cold air intake system with a gasoline engine in harsh rains or flooding where the filter becomes submerged in water, the engine may ingest water potentially causing hydrolock and engine damage. If possible, it is highly recommend to avoid puddles or flooding conditions. Under normal driving conditions, rain is usually not a problem.
Power BoxThe Power Box was designed for advanced cooling efficiency and the ability to resist high temperatures. The Power Box will not distort, unlike other plastic components that may lose their structural integrity over time.
)The AMSOIL Ea Pre Filters (EaPF) provide water resistant (not water proof) treatment for additional protection against water ingestion. AMSOIL EaPF filters are available for most Injen/AMSOIL Power-Flow Gasoline Intake Systems.

Top Truck Challenge Takes No Prisoners

Top Truck Challenge Takes No Prisoners

As mentioned earlier this week, the 2010 Top Truck Challenge in Hollister Hills, CA is underway and is showing no mercy to this year’s competitors. We just got a report from Len Groom, the AMSOIL Technical Product Manager who is witnessing the action live, and the week has been full of both triumphs and tribulations for all of the competitors.

Wednesday’s challenge was the Obstacle Course, which ended up swiftly claiming three vehicles. Obstacle designer Dan Black said he had “no idea one little shelf would claim so many vehicles”. Ryan Knoche in his Samurai Buggy was the first one to be taken down after coming down hard on the shelf and breaking the front driveshaft. Still, he was able to finish the course with only his two-wheel drive to carry him through. Up next was Darren Sinkey in his red Bronco, where the dreaded shelf also caught him up and broke a tie rod end. He ended up with just one wheel to steer while the other one dragged along uselessly. He gave it a valiant effort, but ended up having to be extracted with a bulldozer.

The last victim turned out to be innovative enough to turn the tables on the obstacle course. Roger King in his truck named Elmo (top right) ended up breaking the steering knuckle on a 2.5 ton Rockwell axle--not an easy feat. It wasn’t enough to take him out since he still had rear steering, and in a Top Truck Challenge first Roger flipped his truck around and finished the obstacle course backwards.

The Hill Climb event was described as ‘totally insane’ this year, with two rollovers in the first 100 feet. While the Hill Climb doesn’t sound like much of a challenge, at these angles it is near-impossible to clear. Add some good surprises such as curves, loose dirt and deep holes and it becomes a Top Truck Challenge Hill Climb. The Mini-Rubicon was next, a course of treacherous pile of boulders that the competitors must make it through. Judge Toby Lavender described the Mini-Rubicon event as impassable this year, but was soon proved wrong by Leo Keuther in his ‘Fat Girl’ buggy. Given 20 minutes to navigate through the course, Keuther set a course record and completed it in just 57 seconds. Those are amazing results in a challenge of this magnitude.

Today is the final day of the Top Truck Challenge, and the last event is the dreaded Tank Trap. A ¼ mile valley that climbs 195 feet in elevation from start to finish, nature assists in making this course as perilous as it is. A natural canyon and slippery rock waterfalls all bordered by sheer rock walls create an already immensely challenging course. However, the TTC makes it even more difficult by adding some massively deep holes and filling them with water, just to make it a little more interesting. The intense nature of this final challenge results in double points for those that complete it.

This event is something you have to see to believe. The 2010 Top Truck Challenge is being filmed for an upcoming DVD release, so you won’t miss a moment of the action. Coverage will also be in future issues of Four Wheeler Magazine, at www.fourwheeler.com and here in the AMSOIL Promotions blog.

Learn The Facts About Harley Davidson Oil

In Industry Standard Four-Ball Wear Testing, Harley Davidson's Own "Genuine" Motor Oil Produces the Highest Wear Scar vs. Other Leading Motorcycle Oil's!

Learn The Facts About Harley Davidson Oil in this Eye-Opening Article written by A.J. Amatuzio, President and CEO of AMSOIL INC.

"A situation my daughter, Lyn, told me about recently got me to thinking about how good it is to be able to blend our own oils and have complete control over our own product quality.

Lyn loves to ride motorcycles. She recently purchased a Harley Davidson bike and took it to the local Harley shop to have our new AMSOIL Motorcycle Oil installed. The mechanic took issue with her not using the oil Harley Davidson sells, saying, "I'll use AMSOIL motor oil when AMSOIL starts making motorcycles!"

How would you answer a challenge like that? I was pleased to hear Lyn's response. She said, " I'll start using Harley Davidson motor oil when Harley starts making oil!"

Perfect! The fact is that Harley Davidson, like so many other "brands" of oil, contract with one or more oil companies to make their lubricants. Often, the decision as to who actually makes a private labeled product is based on low bid, and like almost everything manufactured by a low bidder, short cuts are taken in order to meet the low price.

We understand that Harley Davidson has contracted with one company for a number of years to make their oil. That's good, but it still doesn't change the fact that they make motorcycles, not oil. Now consider all the private label oils out there. Every manufacturer that makes equipment with an engine has it's own name on an oil bottle. That includes all the major auto manufacturers, the makers of motorcycles, ATV's, snowmobiles, farm equipment, you name it, they all have oils. But none of these equipment manufacturers actually make an oil. They sell oil to make more money, and then they often price these oils well above the going rate for competitive lubricants because, like Harley Davidson, they can specify or create the impression that only their oil be used in their equipment.

Now there's nothing wrong in having a goal to make money, but let's get real here. Why would anyone want to use a product manufactured down to a price rather than up to high quality standards? We have tested a number of these private label motor oils and two-cycle oils and we found that many are mediocre quality products. None of them even comes close to performing as well as AMSOIL lubricants, and that's a fact!

We're not taking shots at Harley Davidson. They make good motorcycles. And I understand their concern that normal automotive oils not meeting API C specs shouldn't be used in their bikes. But when they imply that AMSOIL Motorcycle Oil is not as good as their brand or I hear that one of their dealers recommended not using AMSOIL, I get a little hostile. Those kinds of statements are the very reason we introduced our motorcycle oils in the first place. And when we say use our 20W-50 motorcycle oil in V-Twin motorcycle engines, that definitely includes Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Our Motorcycle Products Brochure, G-391 , includes wear comparisons of AMSOIL Motorcycle Oils vs. other oils, including Harley Davidson "Genuine". Both our oils demonstrate superior wear protection over all other tested brands. Interestingly enough, the highest wear scar in this test turned out to be Harley Davidson's own "Genuine" oil!

There is a good reason why AMSOIL Motorcycle Oils protect so well against wear. They are formulated with significantly higher levels of zinc and phosphorus, which when included in proper formulation with other high quality additives, provide superior wear protection at the high operating temperatures typical of motorcycles. In addition, synthetic oils inherently reduce sump temperatures so the engines actually run cooler.

The fact is, Harley would do well to have AMSOIL make their oils for them. Then they could be assured that their oil was indeed a superior product. As it is, there may be absolutely nothing wrong with their oil for use in average service, but I guarantee you as the oil temperature gets hotter, like it does when sitting in traffic on asphalt on a hot summer day, the Harley Davidson with AMSOIL in the crankcase is going to be far better protected and run far cooler than the bike with Harley Davidson "Genuine" oil in it. There's just no two ways about it!

So, my daughter Lyn will be going back to this mechanic armed with the facts about AMSOIL Motorcycle Oils and a few facts about Harley Davidson oil. Nobody's going to tell her that her dad's oils are not the very best. She knows better, and she's on a mission to prove her point. Who knows? Knowing Lyn, she might sign up another AMSOIL Dealer in the process."

New! AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-40 and 20W-50 motorcycle oils give motorcyclists what they need: Superior wear protection for high- stress motorcycle engines and transmissions that stay clean and deposit-free.

Please Beware: we have found that many Harley Davidson dealership technicians are telling customers that synthetic motor oil is "too slippery" and can cause flat spots on roller bearings because the bearings won't turn. That is the biggest line of baloney we have ever heard and it is also scientifically and chemically untrue. The person telling you that is not a tribologist (lubrication engineer) and knows absolutely nothing about the science of lubrication, because if they did they wouldn't be telling you such untruths.

Synthetic motor oils are no more "slippery" than petroleum motor oils. The tractive coefficient, which is the measure of the case with which a lubricant facilitates sliding, is essentially the same for both petroleum oils and synthetics. Synthetic motor oils are also used in many production and racing cars that have sophisticated roller follower technology and they have absolutely no problems whatsoever with roller bearings not turning. We have an article on this which we will include in your package, that explains this in more detail that you can take to your local Harley Davidson dealer next time you visit them or we can also email you the article

One of the most common questions we are asked is what is the recommended transmission lube for Harley Davidson, both big twins and sportsters?

The answer is for 883cc and 1200cc sportster motorcycles, the NEW AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is recommended for both the engine and transmission. On 1340cc and 1450cc models, the 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is recommended for the engine crankcase, transmission and the chaincase.

How To Make More Money Doing Less Work In The Oil Change Business

It's hard to change old habits, however the internet has helped crack the old world habits of the 3,000 mile oil change. With all the information out there on the internet it's hard to hide from the facts. Extended drain lubricants are safe and do not void your warranty. Synthetic lubricants can not only save you money, but also make you more money in your oil change business.

The facts speak volumes to the superiority of synthetic oils. Currently there are only 3 oil manufactures that openly print a drain interval on their bottles. Imagine getting your oil changes down to once-a-year. It can be done since there are now three different oils on the market that can accomplish this such as Mobil 1, Castrol Edge and the leader in the industry Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants.

The current business model that our company uses gave up on the 3,000 mile oil change clear back in 1996. Since switching our focus to a 25,000-mile or 1 year oil change using Amsoil our business has exploded.

Educating your customers is the easiest way to get them to switch over to a higher profitable product. There is a lot of bad information out there on the use of extended drain lubricants and most if not all this information is based on old thinking from years past.

Extending drain intervals does not void the manufacturer's warranty. Consumers are protected by the Magnusson Moss Act, which is a federal law that outlines the provisions that are permitted inside most warranties. European car manufacturer's have been extending drain intervals for over two decades with absolutely no detrimental affects on their engines.

One of the stipulations set forth in the Magnusson Moss Act states that a manufacturer cannot void any warranty be verbal instruction only, it must be in writing. Every car dealer that we have challenged on this has backed off their stance about extending drain intervals, they simply will not put it in writing and more than likely that was on the advice of their attorney's.

The fact is you can make more money with extended drain lubricants. Why charge your customers $30.00 for an oil change every 5,000 miles (the national average for oil changes is 5,280 miles) when you can simply charge them $89.You will be surprised to learn that most people would rather deal with their vehicle maintenance once or twice a year and using longer drain oils such as Amsoil is one way to accomplish this.

In a recent survey taken it was found that 94% of consumers would prefer getting just one oil change a year vs. going three or four time a year. It seems most people would rather save time vs. saving money.

The simplest way to determine if this is right for your business is take your own survey with your own customers. Let your customers be your guide, we think you will be surprised at the results. The sooner you switch your customers over to an oil the national quick lube chains won't sell the easier it will be to keep your customers from going there.

Don't totally rule out offering extended drain oils to your customers, besides the decision is really up to them. There are numerous reports documenting the benefits of extended drain intervals so don't rule out the possibilities of enhancing your bottom line.

Discovering The Best Synthetic Motor Oil For Your Purpose

Are you deciding on the best synthetic motor oil to use? You may look at many different brands. You will also need to decide between full synthetic and synthetic blend oil. Know the particulars of each one, it can help you decide. Here is information to consider.
Full synthetic motor oil

During the Second World War, synthetic oil was developed out of necessity. There were no petroleum products available. Lubricating compounds were developed from other sources. It is entirely made from synthetic material. There are no petroleum compounds in it.

Synthetic blend motor oils

Synthetic blend, is a mixture of petroleum oils and synthetic. They will contain as much as thirty percent synthetic oil. It will have some properties of full synthetic. They will cost much less as a result. These oils are sometimes called semi-synthetic motor oils.

In many cases, you will go by the auto manufacturer recommendations. However, there may be some leeway in the specifications. You may be considering converting an older vehicle to synthetic. Cost may be a large factor for your decision.

Motor oil viscosity

The weight of the oil is very important also. If you live in a warm climate, you may not need a 5-40 oil. 5-40 means, that your oil is thinner in colder temperatures. It will thicken in warmer temperatures. This is very important for cold weather. If your oil becomes too thick, you car may not be able to start.

Research your oil needs online. You can make the best decision for your car.

In closing

Do you want the best synthetic motor oil for your car? Try to go by what your car maker recommends. You can save money with synthetic blend oil. However, you car may need full synthetic. Choose the proper oil viscosity. This may be determined by where you live. Search online for synthetic oil reviews.

From the President's Desk- AMSOIL Six Star Regency Platinum Direct Jobber Makes AMSOIL History

From the President's Desk- AMSOIL Six Star Regency  Platinum Direct Jobber Makes AMSOIL History

Please take time to read the following page in this issue of your Action
News. You will see that an important milestone has been reached by one of
your fellow AMSOIL Dealers. Dave Mann has become the first Six-Star Regency
Platinum Direct Jobber in AMSOIL history. This is a major accomplishment,
and I extend my personal congratulations to Dave.

You will also see what Dave attributes his success to, and it comes as no
surprise. Hard work. To quote Dave directly, “I just work hard every day.”
I know Dave, and believe me, that’s exactly how he did it.
It is true that Dave’s credentials are outstanding, and he came into his
business well-equipped. As a former mechanical engineer for Ford, he had
the technical background to understand the concepts of lubrication. He also
understood machinery and the workings of internal combustion engines. He
was, as you will read, “a gearhead as a kid.” He raced all types of
equipment and by age 18 had rebuilt three engines. Dave was also involved
with Roush Racing while at Ford, which contributed even more to his
technical expertise. It’s true that Dave’s technical know-how may have
jump-started his career as an AMSOIL Dealer, but it is not the reason for
his success.

You don’t need a technical background or mechanical expertise to become
successful as an AMSOIL Dealer. Far from it. The great majority of our most
successful Dealers came into this business with absolutely no technical
experience, and I really can’t think of one Dealer who had any type of
lubrication training.

Take, for instance, six-Star Regency Platinum Direct Jobber Bill Durand.
Bill had no lubrication training when he and his wife Donna began their
AMSOIL business. Bill was an officer in the Air Force. But Bill and Donna
recognized the potential in the AMSOIL opportunity, and they took that
opportunity and ran.

The same holds true for our other Five-Star Regency
Platinum Directs, Ray and Arlene Schmit. Ray was a tool and die worker, and
although he did have mechanical aptitude and was proficient in vehicle
maintenance, he had no real knowledge in lubrication. That didn’t stop Ray
and Arlene.

Just like all other successful AMSOIL Dealers the Durands and the Schmits
took the time to learn the basics of lubrication and the many benefits that
AMSOIL products provide. They used the products, studied the literature,
attended meetings and put in the effort to gain the knowledge necessary to
become successful AMSOIL Dealers.

I am no exception. When I first conceived the idea for AMSOIL I knew the
basics about lubrication and, as a fighter pilot, that every jet engine in
the world used only synthetic oil. Not much more than that. But it was
enough. I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. I studied all the
information I could get my hands on. I read all the books and technical
papers I could find. I talked to the experts. I immersed myself for years
in the study of the subject. In short, I armed myself with the knowledge I
needed to excel in the field of lubrication. Why? Because I was determined
to succeed, and nothing, absolutely nothing, was going to stand in my way.
So, what is the message here? Simply put, it doesn’t matter what your
background is. If you are determined to be successful, determined to reach
your goals, you will be successful. I encourage all Dealers to learn a
lesson from Dave Mann, Bill and Donna Durand, Ray and Arlene Schmit and all
the other AMSOIL Dealers who have paid their dues and built businesses that
have given them financial security. They, just like you, come from
different backgrounds. But they all have something in common. They put in
the effort to learn the products, and, above all, worked every day at
building their businesses by sponsoring Dealers and Preferred Customers.
They built their groups by sharing the AMSOIL business opportunity with
people who showed a desire to succeed. Sure, like all of us, they made
mistakes along the way, but they learned from those mistakes, maintained
positive attitudes, and pressed on. Dave Mann said it well. “I don’t waste
energy on negative things. My motto is to adapt, improvise and overcome. I
don’t let it be a stumbling block for me. There is always a way to do
something.”

That pretty much says it all. So again, Dave Mann, congratulations. And my
advice to you, quoting baseball legend Satchel Paige, “Don’t look back.
Someone might be gaining on you.”

Quickshot SE - Restores Peak Performance

Restores Peak Performance in Small Engines and Powersports Equipment

Degraded fuel presents a major maintenance issue in small engines and powersports equipment. It can form varnish, gum and insoluble debris that clog carburetors, fuel injectors and fuel filters. Carbon buildup can form on the tops of pistons that leads to pre-ignition, rough idling and poor throttle response. Fuel-related problems are only expected to intensify in the coming years as the ethanol content in pump gasoline continues to increase.

AMSOIL Quickshot SE (AQS) is a premium fuel additive formulated to thoroughly clean and restore peak performance in small engine and powersports equipment fuel systems. It also stabilizes fuel between uses and during short-term storage periods. Its revolutionary technology focuses on three major fuel-related issues plaguing small engines and powersports equipment: ethanol, water and dirty pump gas.

Ethanol

Ethanol in fuel has a tendency to absorb water and separate from the gasoline, sinking to the bottom of the gas tank, where it quickly degrades and creates gum, varnish and other insoluble debris that can plug fuel flow passages and negatively affect engine performance. When this ethanol/water mixture is pulled

into the engine, it creates a lean burn situation that increases combustion chamber temperatures and can lead to engine damage. AMSOIL Quickshot SE is designed to keep water dispersed throughout the tank, moving it out as a normal part of operation and decreasing the chance of ethanol separating from the gasoline.

Quickshot SE was tested in fuel containing 10 percent ethanol. Controlled plugging of injectors showed a 70 percent flow improvement, while oxidation stability improved 44 percent over untreated fuel.

Water

Water finds its way into gas tanks through condensation in tanks open to the atmosphere, gas pumps and other environmental conditions, and if left untreated, will cause a myriad of starting, performance and corrosion problems. By keeping water dispersed in tiny molecules and safely moving it out of the tank through the combustion chamber, Quickshot SE helps maintain engine performance and protects against damaging corrosion.

Dirty Gasoline

Dirty gasoline causes fuel system gumming and varnish, as well as piston and combustion chamber deposits. Although all gasoline sold in the U.S. is formulated with a lowest additive concentration (LAC) level of detergent additives, these detergent levels are not enough to prevent deposits from building up on critical fuel system components. Quickshot SE contains unique chemistry that quickly detaches and carries away deposits and buildups in fuel systems, injectors and carburetors, while also cleaning hard-to-remove deposits on piston tops, spark plugs and other combustion chamber parts.

Applications

Quickshot SE is recommended for use in all two- and four-stroke gasoline-powered engines, including motorcycles, snowmobiles, boats, personal watercraft, ATVs, edgers, tillers, mowers, snowblowers, chainsaws, generators and farm and construction equipment. However, AMSOIL P.i. Performance Improver is the superior choice for passenger vehicle applications.

Recommendations

Quickshot SE is designed for an initial clean-up dose of 8 oz. per 6 gallons of gasoline, followed by 8 oz. per 12 gallons thereafter.
