Two Winter X Games Medals for Team AMSOIL

Picture
In the past,  the spectacle of the ESPN Winter X Games has held different meeting at the farthest ends of the spectrum for Team AMSOIL racers Ross Martin and Tim Tremblay.

For Martin, the Judnick Motorsports star has mirrored his AMSOIL Championship Snocross success at Winter X, picking up three medals before landing in Aspen this year. For Tremblay, Aspen has never been kind as the defending AMSOIL Pro Open champion had yet to finish a race at the high profile event. For one weekend, the stars aligned as both riders brought home some hardware from Colorado.

Martin drew the first major obstacle by pairing up with five-time gold medalist Tucker Hibbert in the first heat. Martin went bar-to-bar with Hibbert for the eight-lap qualifier, finishing second and earning one of the coveted transfer spots  into the final.

Scheuring Speed Sports rider Tremblay grabbed the first gate pick in the second heat, but the burly Canadian had to go up against teammates Robbie Malinoski and Darrin Mees.  Tremblay followed Matt Piche for the first few laps before taking the lead and the heat win. Malinoski crashed out of the contest while making a pass into third. Mees was running right behind Tremblay in second before a mechanical knocked him out of the race.

In the final, Martin and Tremblay were the odds-on favorites to stop Hibbert’s run towards a sixth straight gold medal. Martin grabbed the early lead with Tremblay in third behind Hibbert. A few laps in, Hibbert got around Martin and the battle for second was on between Martin and Tremblay. The running order would stay the same for the remainder of the race as the three top sleds stretched a sizeable lead over the rest of the field.  Hibbert won the gold, with Martin picking up his fourth medal and Tremblay leaving Aspen with the bronze.

Up next on the ACS schedule is a weekend stop in Deadwood, S.D. for two days of the worlds best riders going head-to-head. Racing will be held Friday and Saturday nights. A live stream will be available at www.isocracing.com

Big Lake Cycle - located at 5822 Tower Avenue in Superior's South End.  715-718-2277

Celebrating over 100 years of entrepreneurial spirit at this location, Will Farrow and his crew are proud to announce the opening of their new motorcycle shop.  B.L.C.

Now after almost 4 years we are going strong. We have learned alot in our time and tried to make all feel welcome. It's part of the old time bike shop feeling that was important to me. It dosent matter what you ride just that you do ride and enjoy the wind. Also that your bike is safe to ride. A lot of people know how to ride but I am surprised at how many don't know what's safe or not, but then that's our job to know.

I have over 41 years experience working on and playing with bikes.  We specialize in V-Twins and British motorcycles, Metric Cruisers, and Sport Bikes, as well as custom fabrication.  I say, "if you can dream it... I can do it."  I have tried to do this whereever I can.   We love a challenge.

Patrick (the Hogdoctor) came to us early in the summer of 2012, he's fantastic! He has worked on Harleys just about each and every day of his life. He comes with many years of Harley training as a certifed Master Level Harley Davidson Service Tech and has provided invaluable input when it comes to the right and wrong way of doing certain procedures.  To top him all off he's a Decorated combat veteran that knows right is right and wrong is always wrong. He's driven by incessant curiosity and a need to understand how things work and a desire to make them work better. Theres no challenge too great for the Hogdoctor.

Then theres John (UGLY) Kucker hes our metric sport guy and also a Certified Harley Technician. He grew up on mini bikes, three wheelers, four wheelers, dirt bikes and anything that had a motor. John likes to go fast. He says meaner the better, the more unique even better. He likes the bikes he turns into Street Fighters to be something different something cool that fits the rider. Something that's wicked fast!

So as there are different kinds of motorcycles we have a good man to cover it no matter what it is. I stake our reputation on it each day.

Products the Pros Use: Snowmobile Product Lookup Guide

Picture
AMSOIL recently released a new Snowmobile Products Guide. AMSOIL Racing sat down with Product Specialist Shane Hickey to discuss this new tool and how it can help sled enthusiasts.

AMSOIL Racing: Why was the Snowmobile Product Guide created?

Shane Hickey: The Motorcycle Product Guide is immensely popular, so AMSOIL decided to provide the same service for the snowmobile market. The Snomobile Product Guide is the first of its kind for finding what you need for your sled. This leaves the door open for other powersports product guides as well (ATV, inboard, etc.).

AR: What type of information is included?

SH: The Snowmobile Product Guide features information and equipment specifications for over 2,000 unique snowmobile applications covering all major manufacturers form 1990 to present. We took the information you would find in your owner’s manual and made it available online to save time. All the information you need is in one place.

AR: How is this beneficial to racers?

SH: Racers are able to input the year, make, model and engine type of their sled. The snowmobile guide provides comprehensive information on the type and amount of product you will need.

Team AMSOIL Sets Record at Parker 300 Enduro

Team AMSOIL Sets Record at Parker 300 Enduro

Once again, Team AMSOIL Inboard Endurance made the annual pilgrimage to Parker, Arizona with the GN77 race boat for the 2012 Parker 300 Mile Enduro.

In the months preceding the race, many systems in the boat were overhauled or modified to run at the next level of intensity. The Teague Custom Marine Quad Rotor engine was completely rebuilt due to the extreme overheating in 2011. Remarkably, there was no serious damage to the engine, even after running under full load for a full lap with no water. Regardless, this opportunity to go through the engine was taken advantage of.

Thursday and Friday were spent testing the boat and working the kinks out of the new setup. Bob and John Teague ran many propellers, tested the air-fuel ratio and ran different levels of boost before settling on a combination they felt was the best combination of speed and stability for the notoriously brutal 300 mile endurance race.

They knew that there would be some stiff competition both in their division and for the overall. Gary Harbidian and John Franklin entered their #17 twin turbo Schiada for the first time since beating the GN77 for the overall in 2009.

There were also quite a few new and much improved Modified Outboard entries, which would start in front of the unlimited V-Drives this year. The Enduro is run on a handicap system where the slower divisions start first, and the faster boats have to catch and lap them numerous times to race for the overall.

The race began at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 27, with John Teague starting the GN77 in Division 6 for its first leg at 10:30.

After getting the boat warmed up and in the groove, John went for and executed a pass on #17 for the lead after a few miles of deck to deck competition at over 100 MPH.

During the 17-lap first leg, the GN77 recorded the fastest lap time of any boat during the entire race, averaging over 95 MPH on the extremely rough six-mile course.

John brought the boat in for pit with about ¾ of a lap lead on #17, and was well on the way to catching some of the fastest outboards gunning for the overall.

Bob got into the boat with the mentality of pacing the #17 and maintaining their lead, conserving the equipment for John to put on a last leg all out sprint to the finish if the overall win was within reach.

After a flawless pit by the crew, Bob started clicking off laps. Unfortunately, on his eightth lap the battery broke internally. While this has happened before, usually the engine will run on the alternator until the battery is changed at the next pit. This time, it shorted the ignition and killed the engine across the course from the pits.

Bob managed to get a tow in quickly and the battery was changed during the emergency pit. John got back into the boat on a mission to lay down some fast laps and catch up to the #17, however the electrical gremlins again reared their heads.

After a couple laps of hard running, the MSD Box gave out after being weakened by the battery’s internal shorting. John was still a couple miles from the pits, and by the time he was able to procure a tow, their chances of competing were over.

Although they did not finish, Bob and John agreed they gained valuable experience for future races in the GN77. The engine and new systems in the boat performed flawlessly and the boat’s setup as a whole was the best it has ever been. It is unanimously agreed the battery situation will be redesigned and rethought.

Team AMSOIL Inboard Endurance would like to congratulate their friends and eventual overall winners The War Canoe #435 on their convincing Enduro Overall Victory.
