Learn The Facts About Harley Davidson Oil

In Industry Standard Four-Ball Wear Testing, Harley Davidson's Own "Genuine" Motor Oil Produces the Highest Wear Scar vs. Other Leading Motorcycle Oil's!

Learn The Facts About Harley Davidson Oil in this Eye-Opening Article written by A.J. Amatuzio, President and CEO of AMSOIL INC.

"A situation my daughter, Lyn, told me about recently got me to thinking about how good it is to be able to blend our own oils and have complete control over our own product quality.

Lyn loves to ride motorcycles. She recently purchased a Harley Davidson bike and took it to the local Harley shop to have our new AMSOIL Motorcycle Oil installed. The mechanic took issue with her not using the oil Harley Davidson sells, saying, "I'll use AMSOIL motor oil when AMSOIL starts making motorcycles!"

How would you answer a challenge like that? I was pleased to hear Lyn's response. She said, " I'll start using Harley Davidson motor oil when Harley starts making oil!"

Perfect! The fact is that Harley Davidson, like so many other "brands" of oil, contract with one or more oil companies to make their lubricants. Often, the decision as to who actually makes a private labeled product is based on low bid, and like almost everything manufactured by a low bidder, short cuts are taken in order to meet the low price.

We understand that Harley Davidson has contracted with one company for a number of years to make their oil. That's good, but it still doesn't change the fact that they make motorcycles, not oil. Now consider all the private label oils out there. Every manufacturer that makes equipment with an engine has it's own name on an oil bottle. That includes all the major auto manufacturers, the makers of motorcycles, ATV's, snowmobiles, farm equipment, you name it, they all have oils. But none of these equipment manufacturers actually make an oil. They sell oil to make more money, and then they often price these oils well above the going rate for competitive lubricants because, like Harley Davidson, they can specify or create the impression that only their oil be used in their equipment.

Now there's nothing wrong in having a goal to make money, but let's get real here. Why would anyone want to use a product manufactured down to a price rather than up to high quality standards? We have tested a number of these private label motor oils and two-cycle oils and we found that many are mediocre quality products. None of them even comes close to performing as well as AMSOIL lubricants, and that's a fact!

We're not taking shots at Harley Davidson. They make good motorcycles. And I understand their concern that normal automotive oils not meeting API C specs shouldn't be used in their bikes. But when they imply that AMSOIL Motorcycle Oil is not as good as their brand or I hear that one of their dealers recommended not using AMSOIL, I get a little hostile. Those kinds of statements are the very reason we introduced our motorcycle oils in the first place. And when we say use our 20W-50 motorcycle oil in V-Twin motorcycle engines, that definitely includes Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Our Motorcycle Products Brochure, G-391 , includes wear comparisons of AMSOIL Motorcycle Oils vs. other oils, including Harley Davidson "Genuine". Both our oils demonstrate superior wear protection over all other tested brands. Interestingly enough, the highest wear scar in this test turned out to be Harley Davidson's own "Genuine" oil!

There is a good reason why AMSOIL Motorcycle Oils protect so well against wear. They are formulated with significantly higher levels of zinc and phosphorus, which when included in proper formulation with other high quality additives, provide superior wear protection at the high operating temperatures typical of motorcycles. In addition, synthetic oils inherently reduce sump temperatures so the engines actually run cooler.

The fact is, Harley would do well to have AMSOIL make their oils for them. Then they could be assured that their oil was indeed a superior product. As it is, there may be absolutely nothing wrong with their oil for use in average service, but I guarantee you as the oil temperature gets hotter, like it does when sitting in traffic on asphalt on a hot summer day, the Harley Davidson with AMSOIL in the crankcase is going to be far better protected and run far cooler than the bike with Harley Davidson "Genuine" oil in it. There's just no two ways about it!

So, my daughter Lyn will be going back to this mechanic armed with the facts about AMSOIL Motorcycle Oils and a few facts about Harley Davidson oil. Nobody's going to tell her that her dad's oils are not the very best. She knows better, and she's on a mission to prove her point. Who knows? Knowing Lyn, she might sign up another AMSOIL Dealer in the process."

New! AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-40 and 20W-50 motorcycle oils give motorcyclists what they need: Superior wear protection for high- stress motorcycle engines and transmissions that stay clean and deposit-free.

Please Beware: we have found that many Harley Davidson dealership technicians are telling customers that synthetic motor oil is "too slippery" and can cause flat spots on roller bearings because the bearings won't turn. That is the biggest line of baloney we have ever heard and it is also scientifically and chemically untrue. The person telling you that is not a tribologist (lubrication engineer) and knows absolutely nothing about the science of lubrication, because if they did they wouldn't be telling you such untruths.

Synthetic motor oils are no more "slippery" than petroleum motor oils. The tractive coefficient, which is the measure of the case with which a lubricant facilitates sliding, is essentially the same for both petroleum oils and synthetics. Synthetic motor oils are also used in many production and racing cars that have sophisticated roller follower technology and they have absolutely no problems whatsoever with roller bearings not turning. We have an article on this which we will include in your package, that explains this in more detail that you can take to your local Harley Davidson dealer next time you visit them or we can also email you the article

One of the most common questions we are asked is what is the recommended transmission lube for Harley Davidson, both big twins and sportsters?

The answer is for 883cc and 1200cc sportster motorcycles, the NEW AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is recommended for both the engine and transmission. On 1340cc and 1450cc models, the 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is recommended for the engine crankcase, transmission and the chaincase.

How To Make More Money Doing Less Work In The Oil Change Business

It's hard to change old habits, however the internet has helped crack the old world habits of the 3,000 mile oil change. With all the information out there on the internet it's hard to hide from the facts. Extended drain lubricants are safe and do not void your warranty. Synthetic lubricants can not only save you money, but also make you more money in your oil change business.

The facts speak volumes to the superiority of synthetic oils. Currently there are only 3 oil manufactures that openly print a drain interval on their bottles. Imagine getting your oil changes down to once-a-year. It can be done since there are now three different oils on the market that can accomplish this such as Mobil 1, Castrol Edge and the leader in the industry Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants.

The current business model that our company uses gave up on the 3,000 mile oil change clear back in 1996. Since switching our focus to a 25,000-mile or 1 year oil change using Amsoil our business has exploded.

Educating your customers is the easiest way to get them to switch over to a higher profitable product. There is a lot of bad information out there on the use of extended drain lubricants and most if not all this information is based on old thinking from years past.

Extending drain intervals does not void the manufacturer's warranty. Consumers are protected by the Magnusson Moss Act, which is a federal law that outlines the provisions that are permitted inside most warranties. European car manufacturer's have been extending drain intervals for over two decades with absolutely no detrimental affects on their engines.

One of the stipulations set forth in the Magnusson Moss Act states that a manufacturer cannot void any warranty be verbal instruction only, it must be in writing. Every car dealer that we have challenged on this has backed off their stance about extending drain intervals, they simply will not put it in writing and more than likely that was on the advice of their attorney's.

The fact is you can make more money with extended drain lubricants. Why charge your customers $30.00 for an oil change every 5,000 miles (the national average for oil changes is 5,280 miles) when you can simply charge them $89.You will be surprised to learn that most people would rather deal with their vehicle maintenance once or twice a year and using longer drain oils such as Amsoil is one way to accomplish this.

In a recent survey taken it was found that 94% of consumers would prefer getting just one oil change a year vs. going three or four time a year. It seems most people would rather save time vs. saving money.

The simplest way to determine if this is right for your business is take your own survey with your own customers. Let your customers be your guide, we think you will be surprised at the results. The sooner you switch your customers over to an oil the national quick lube chains won't sell the easier it will be to keep your customers from going there.

Don't totally rule out offering extended drain oils to your customers, besides the decision is really up to them. There are numerous reports documenting the benefits of extended drain intervals so don't rule out the possibilities of enhancing your bottom line.

Discovering The Best Synthetic Motor Oil For Your Purpose

Are you deciding on the best synthetic motor oil to use? You may look at many different brands. You will also need to decide between full synthetic and synthetic blend oil. Know the particulars of each one, it can help you decide. Here is information to consider.
Full synthetic motor oil

During the Second World War, synthetic oil was developed out of necessity. There were no petroleum products available. Lubricating compounds were developed from other sources. It is entirely made from synthetic material. There are no petroleum compounds in it.

Synthetic blend motor oils

Synthetic blend, is a mixture of petroleum oils and synthetic. They will contain as much as thirty percent synthetic oil. It will have some properties of full synthetic. They will cost much less as a result. These oils are sometimes called semi-synthetic motor oils.

In many cases, you will go by the auto manufacturer recommendations. However, there may be some leeway in the specifications. You may be considering converting an older vehicle to synthetic. Cost may be a large factor for your decision.

Motor oil viscosity

The weight of the oil is very important also. If you live in a warm climate, you may not need a 5-40 oil. 5-40 means, that your oil is thinner in colder temperatures. It will thicken in warmer temperatures. This is very important for cold weather. If your oil becomes too thick, you car may not be able to start.

Research your oil needs online. You can make the best decision for your car.

In closing

Do you want the best synthetic motor oil for your car? Try to go by what your car maker recommends. You can save money with synthetic blend oil. However, you car may need full synthetic. Choose the proper oil viscosity. This may be determined by where you live. Search online for synthetic oil reviews.

From the President's Desk- AMSOIL Six Star Regency Platinum Direct Jobber Makes AMSOIL History

From the President's Desk- AMSOIL Six Star Regency  Platinum Direct Jobber Makes AMSOIL History

Please take time to read the following page in this issue of your Action
News. You will see that an important milestone has been reached by one of
your fellow AMSOIL Dealers. Dave Mann has become the first Six-Star Regency
Platinum Direct Jobber in AMSOIL history. This is a major accomplishment,
and I extend my personal congratulations to Dave.

You will also see what Dave attributes his success to, and it comes as no
surprise. Hard work. To quote Dave directly, “I just work hard every day.”
I know Dave, and believe me, that’s exactly how he did it.
It is true that Dave’s credentials are outstanding, and he came into his
business well-equipped. As a former mechanical engineer for Ford, he had
the technical background to understand the concepts of lubrication. He also
understood machinery and the workings of internal combustion engines. He
was, as you will read, “a gearhead as a kid.” He raced all types of
equipment and by age 18 had rebuilt three engines. Dave was also involved
with Roush Racing while at Ford, which contributed even more to his
technical expertise. It’s true that Dave’s technical know-how may have
jump-started his career as an AMSOIL Dealer, but it is not the reason for
his success.

You don’t need a technical background or mechanical expertise to become
successful as an AMSOIL Dealer. Far from it. The great majority of our most
successful Dealers came into this business with absolutely no technical
experience, and I really can’t think of one Dealer who had any type of
lubrication training.

Take, for instance, six-Star Regency Platinum Direct Jobber Bill Durand.
Bill had no lubrication training when he and his wife Donna began their
AMSOIL business. Bill was an officer in the Air Force. But Bill and Donna
recognized the potential in the AMSOIL opportunity, and they took that
opportunity and ran.

The same holds true for our other Five-Star Regency
Platinum Directs, Ray and Arlene Schmit. Ray was a tool and die worker, and
although he did have mechanical aptitude and was proficient in vehicle
maintenance, he had no real knowledge in lubrication. That didn’t stop Ray
and Arlene.

Just like all other successful AMSOIL Dealers the Durands and the Schmits
took the time to learn the basics of lubrication and the many benefits that
AMSOIL products provide. They used the products, studied the literature,
attended meetings and put in the effort to gain the knowledge necessary to
become successful AMSOIL Dealers.

I am no exception. When I first conceived the idea for AMSOIL I knew the
basics about lubrication and, as a fighter pilot, that every jet engine in
the world used only synthetic oil. Not much more than that. But it was
enough. I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. I studied all the
information I could get my hands on. I read all the books and technical
papers I could find. I talked to the experts. I immersed myself for years
in the study of the subject. In short, I armed myself with the knowledge I
needed to excel in the field of lubrication. Why? Because I was determined
to succeed, and nothing, absolutely nothing, was going to stand in my way.
So, what is the message here? Simply put, it doesn’t matter what your
background is. If you are determined to be successful, determined to reach
your goals, you will be successful. I encourage all Dealers to learn a
lesson from Dave Mann, Bill and Donna Durand, Ray and Arlene Schmit and all
the other AMSOIL Dealers who have paid their dues and built businesses that
have given them financial security. They, just like you, come from
different backgrounds. But they all have something in common. They put in
the effort to learn the products, and, above all, worked every day at
building their businesses by sponsoring Dealers and Preferred Customers.
They built their groups by sharing the AMSOIL business opportunity with
people who showed a desire to succeed. Sure, like all of us, they made
mistakes along the way, but they learned from those mistakes, maintained
positive attitudes, and pressed on. Dave Mann said it well. “I don’t waste
energy on negative things. My motto is to adapt, improvise and overcome. I
don’t let it be a stumbling block for me. There is always a way to do
something.”

That pretty much says it all. So again, Dave Mann, congratulations. And my
advice to you, quoting baseball legend Satchel Paige, “Don’t look back.
Someone might be gaining on you.”

Quickshot SE - Restores Peak Performance

Restores Peak Performance in Small Engines and Powersports Equipment

Degraded fuel presents a major maintenance issue in small engines and powersports equipment. It can form varnish, gum and insoluble debris that clog carburetors, fuel injectors and fuel filters. Carbon buildup can form on the tops of pistons that leads to pre-ignition, rough idling and poor throttle response. Fuel-related problems are only expected to intensify in the coming years as the ethanol content in pump gasoline continues to increase.

AMSOIL Quickshot SE (AQS) is a premium fuel additive formulated to thoroughly clean and restore peak performance in small engine and powersports equipment fuel systems. It also stabilizes fuel between uses and during short-term storage periods. Its revolutionary technology focuses on three major fuel-related issues plaguing small engines and powersports equipment: ethanol, water and dirty pump gas.

Ethanol

Ethanol in fuel has a tendency to absorb water and separate from the gasoline, sinking to the bottom of the gas tank, where it quickly degrades and creates gum, varnish and other insoluble debris that can plug fuel flow passages and negatively affect engine performance. When this ethanol/water mixture is pulled

into the engine, it creates a lean burn situation that increases combustion chamber temperatures and can lead to engine damage. AMSOIL Quickshot SE is designed to keep water dispersed throughout the tank, moving it out as a normal part of operation and decreasing the chance of ethanol separating from the gasoline.

Quickshot SE was tested in fuel containing 10 percent ethanol. Controlled plugging of injectors showed a 70 percent flow improvement, while oxidation stability improved 44 percent over untreated fuel.

Water

Water finds its way into gas tanks through condensation in tanks open to the atmosphere, gas pumps and other environmental conditions, and if left untreated, will cause a myriad of starting, performance and corrosion problems. By keeping water dispersed in tiny molecules and safely moving it out of the tank through the combustion chamber, Quickshot SE helps maintain engine performance and protects against damaging corrosion.

Dirty Gasoline

Dirty gasoline causes fuel system gumming and varnish, as well as piston and combustion chamber deposits. Although all gasoline sold in the U.S. is formulated with a lowest additive concentration (LAC) level of detergent additives, these detergent levels are not enough to prevent deposits from building up on critical fuel system components. Quickshot SE contains unique chemistry that quickly detaches and carries away deposits and buildups in fuel systems, injectors and carburetors, while also cleaning hard-to-remove deposits on piston tops, spark plugs and other combustion chamber parts.

Applications

Quickshot SE is recommended for use in all two- and four-stroke gasoline-powered engines, including motorcycles, snowmobiles, boats, personal watercraft, ATVs, edgers, tillers, mowers, snowblowers, chainsaws, generators and farm and construction equipment. However, AMSOIL P.i. Performance Improver is the superior choice for passenger vehicle applications.

Recommendations

Quickshot SE is designed for an initial clean-up dose of 8 oz. per 6 gallons of gasoline, followed by 8 oz. per 12 gallons thereafter.

AMSOIL, the Superior-based maker of synthetic motor oil, is paying $6 million over 20 years for the right to name the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center’s new arena, AMSOIL Arena, according to a source with knowledge of the deal.
This is not the first time AMSOIL has bought the naming rights for a local event or attraction. The annual snocross event at Spirit Mountain is named the AMSOIL Duluth National Snocross.
Construction on the $70 million arena began in April 2009. The arena will include 6,700 seats and an NHL-sized ice sheet. The University of Minnesota Duluth hockey teams will begin playing in the arena next winter

The UMD men will play North Dakota on Dec. 30 in the arena’s first game.
AMSOIL founder, president and CEO Albert J. Amatuzio is a native of Duluth’s Raleigh Street. He served 25 years in the Air Guard as a jet fighter pilot. He founded AMSOIL after retiring from the military and after observing characteristics of synthetic oil in jet engines — reduced engine wear, good performance in extreme temperatures and long life. He thought that synthetic oil also could be used in automobiles.

The first can of AMSOIL 10W-40 appeared on the market in 1972.
Amatuzio has received numerous awards since founding AMSOIL. He was inducted into the Superior Business Hall of Fame last year.

Brady Smith

2009 Brady Smith Racing Press Release
Date April 10, 2009

Brady Smith Set for Weekend Off Following Illini 100 at Farmer City

(SOLON SPRINGS, WISCONSIN) Brady Smith and his #2 Dirt Late Model team wrapped up the "Month of Money" with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series last weekend (April 3-4) at the Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois. The historic fairgrounds venue played host to the 2nd Annual 'Illini 100' over the weekend and a $20,000 top prize was up for grabs in the two-day show.

On Friday night, Brady timed in twenty-fourth fastest in WOOLMS qualifying and later ran second in heat race action.
